Obituary

Fred Yawn, age 96, of Jonesboro, AR, passed away peacefully on December 20th, surrounded by the family members he loved most deeply.

Born on June 8, 1929, Fred lived a long life full of character, faith, and just the right amount of stubbornness. Known affectionately for being feisty, Fred had a strong personality, a quick wit, and a way of keeping everyone on their toes. If you knew Fred, you probably smiled just thinking about him.

Fred loved spending time at Central Baptist Church, where he was a long-time member. Most will remember being greeted by him at the “Red Wolf” door! He spent many years at Jonesboro Country Club and Sage Meadows with his friends on the course. His favorite way to spend time was getting pedicures with his granddaughter, Savannah.

Fred is survived by his daughter, Lisa and Dr. Gary Strickland; their daughter Savannah and her husband Alex Berry, and their son Witten. He is also survived by his son Layne Yawn and his wife Jo; grandchildren Brian Yawn of Michigan, Lindsey (Byron) Cato of Jonesboro, and Emily (Jeremy) Walter of Conway; and great-grandchildren Tanner, Parker, and Evan of Michigan; Tristan and Stella of Jonesboro; and Victoria of Conway.

He is also survived by his brother James “Bill” Yawn of Michigan.

Fred was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Aloha Yawn, and those who knew him find comfort in knowing they are reunited once again.

A celebration of life will be held on January 10th at 10:00 a.m. at Central Baptist Church, officiated by Dr. Archie Mason and Don Blackmore. Following the service, join the family for a time of reminiscing. Golf attire is encouraged for those who attend. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Central Baptist Church in Fred’s memory.
