Fred Gene Rudy

Fred Gene Rudy, 80, of Jonesboro, died Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at Skill Care Nursing Center in Jonesboro. He was the son of James Fred Rudy and Nora Taylor Rudy, grandson of Dr. D.B. Rudy, and youngest brother of Celeste Rudy Gibson, Janet Rudy Coffee, Garth Rudy and Sena Rudy Winters.

Born in Smithville, Fred Gene lived in Pocahontas before moving to Jonesboro in 1965. He was a retired Cashier for Arkansas State University with 25 years of service, retiring July 17, 1990.

Fred Gene was a long-time member of Smithville Baptist Church and was active in Baptist Churches in the Jonesboro community for many years. He led singing in some area nursing homes and his ministry to others was to often drive them to appointments and outings. He especially enjoyed bingo.

Survivors include 1 nephew: Dr. Gary Winters, Sr., of Jonesboro, pastor of Jonesboro Baptist Church; and

3 nieces: Ann Richards of Tucson, Arizona, Waynona Avery of Covington, Tennessee, and Patsy Collins who resides in Denton, Texas. All are retired from the education field.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Dr. Gary Winters officiating. A graveside committal service will follow at 4:30 Saturday afternoon in the Smithville Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Saturday afternoon from 1:00-2:00, prior to the service in Emerson Chapel.
