Fred Calvin Odis Edwards Sr.

September 27, 1942 — October 3, 2025

Jonesboro

Fred Edwards Sr, age 83, of Jonesboro, Arkansas, passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior on October 3, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Peach Orchard, Missouri, Fred lived a full and hardworking life. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who took pride in providing for his family and helping others. A skilled plumber and mechanic for many years, Fred was known for his honesty, strong work ethic, and willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need. Even after retirement, he continued doing what he loved, tinkering, fixing things, and fishing. During that time, he also helped his dear friend Meb run his salvage yard while Meb was battling cancer. Fred always found joy and purpose in the work of his hands and in helping those he cared about.

Fred was a God-fearing man who loved the Lord with all his heart and remained faithful until his last breath. His quiet strength and steadfast faith were a testimony to everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Virginia Edwards; his children, Clayton Edwards (JoAn), Fred Edwards Jr. (Faye), and Sherry Bennett (John); his grandchildren, Vivi Edwards, Samantha Drew (Matt), Jon Hawkins (Sarah), Justin Hawkins (Raquel), Shannon Bennett, Ryan Edwards, Chase Edwards (Melinda), Jeremy Sexton (Tina), and Jessica Sexton Lewis; his sister Glenda (Robert) Nelson; 27 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother Sarah (Eva) Edwards, father Calvin (Alfred) Edwards, siblings Ella Mae (Erby) Wilson, William (Virginia) Edwards, Effie (Everette) Owens, and Byron (Helen) Edwards, grandson Brandon Edwards and a niece.

Pallbearers will be Jaxson Drew, Matt Drew, Justin Hawkins, Jon Hawkins, Kevin Scrape, and Michael McNeese. Honorary pallbearers Brandon Edwards, Barney Edwards, Donald Edwards, Chase Edwards and Jeremy Sexton.

Fred’s life reflected the words of 2 Timothy 4:7:
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

He will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his love, faith, and the legacy of hard work and devotion he leaves behind.

“His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’”
Matthew 25:23
