Frances Marie Whitfield, 88, went to be with the Lord on June 23rd. She was born November 7, 1936 in Little Rock, Arkansas to the late William and Ruby Glasscock. Frances was a Little Rock Central High graduate where she thrived in A cappella choir and was known for her infectious smile and laughter. She was a homemaker and avid volunteer for 24 years. She then worked for 20+ years as an executive secretary. Frances was widowed after 28 years of marriage. She spent the last 18 years of her life in Jonesboro, Arkansas enjoying family and attending Walnut Street Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed living her last senior years at the St. Bernard’s Village and Villa where she was surrounded by many loving, supportive friends.
Frances was an avid reader stating that she could go anywhere in the world at any time in history through the pages of a book. Frances lived a very active life enjoying years of water aerobics and walking. Up until the last week of her life, she was determined to keep moving!
Frances’ greatest joy was her family and her role as beloved Mimi. She had immense love and pride in all three of her children, son-in-law and daughter-in-law, five grandchildren, six great grandchildren, three sisters, a brother, and many friends. Mimi was our biggest fan. Truly, to know this woman was to love her and be loved by her.
There are optimistic people that see a glass half full… Frances saw the glass as overflowing. She took the side of the best case scenario and continually chose to live with joy. We must add she was blessed with a sense of humor that helped her tread a little lighter through hard times and also brought laughter and joy to those who knew her.
The Lord Jesus Christ was her strength, the love of her life, and it showed every day in the peace and love she radiated onto others. In times of loss, even at the end of her own life, Frances proclaimed, “When we know the Lord, we win!”
The family is holding a private memorial service.
A special thanks to the staff at the St. Bernard’s Village and the Villa for the exceptional care and endearing love they showed to Frances in her final season of life.
In lieu of flowers, any memorials may be made to the Rainwater Memory Care at St. Bernard’s Villa.
