Frances Cohoon

Frances Irene Cohoon, 90, of Weiner, passed away Sunday, August 19, 2018, at her residence.

Born in Dewitt, Frances lived much of her life in rural Weiner and was a graduate of Weiner High School. She was the long-time post master at Weiner and was a land owner. Frances maintained an avid interest in farming and involvement in the agricultural community.

Frances was a charter member of Weiner First Baptist Church and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Weiner chapter. She was a charter member of the Weiner Rice Festival Committee and has been involved in every festival. She thoroughly enjoyed dancing with her friends but above all she loved being with her family in all endeavors, occasions and holidays.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents: Court and Maude Elizabeth Mathis Davis; her husband Earl Cohoon; her devoted friend Leon Sharp; a brother Jackie Dean Davis; and 4 sisters: Betty June Franklin, Ann Findley, Delma Mason and Mildred Merriman; and nephew Danny Lamberth.

Survivors include:
2 sisters and brother-in-law: Jeanette Lamberth of Jonesboro, and Paula and James Beard of Sulphur Rock;
1 brother, CP Davis of Battle Creek, Michigan;
6 nieces: Cheryl Stroope, Marlisa Thompson, Donna Bevill, Janet Lamberth Baugh, Amy Beard Tallents and Ann Summers;
3 nephews: Rick Davis, Jimmy Franklin and Dean Lamberth; and
many in-laws, great nephews and nieces, great great nephews and nieces and devoted friends.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday in Weiner Cemetery with Rev. Conway Safirt officiating. There will be no visitation.

Active pallbearers include Gary Sitzer, Charles Cooper, Rommie Joe Ashcraft, Z. Randall Stroope, Jody Thompson, Lee Tallents, Bobby Sharp and Jimmy Franklin. Honorary pallbearers include members of the Zyndall Raney Band, all of Frances' dancing friends and fellow members of Weiner First Baptist Church.
