Frances Avanell Stone, 87, of Bay, died Wednesday evening at her home.
Born in Baldwyn, Mississippi, Avanell lived in Mickey, Tennessee, before moving to Bay in 1938. She was a homemaker and a member of the Bay United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women.
Avanell was preceded in death by her parents: B.E. and Lilly Hancock Nix; by a sister, Mary Addison; by a brother, Floyd Nix; by a granddaughter, Dee Turman Shoemaker; by 3 grandsons: Todd Turman, Jay McMasters and Eric McMasters; and a by a great grandson, Cameron McMasters.
Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Bill Stone of the home, married November 22, 1941;
6 daughters and sons-in-law: Billie Turman (Bob), Sue McMasters, Beth Scott (Donnie), and Jerri Freeman (Rick) all of Bay, Barbara Grisham (Jimmy) of Jonesboro, and Carolyn Edgar (Larry) of Highland Village, Texas;
2 brothers, James Nix and Charles (Fat) Nix, both of Bay;
3 sisters, Joyce Byrd and Dorothy Webb, both of Bay and Effie Hathcoat of Brookland;
12 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:00 in Emerson Memorial Chapel with
Rev. Heath Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park.
Grandsons and great grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held Friday from 11:00 a.m. until service time in Emerson Chapel.
