Finis Burns, 79, of Jonesboro, died Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at St. Bernard’s Medical Center. Born in Muleshoe, Texas on August 31, 1931, he served in the Korean War with the United States Army, was a member of the American Legion Post 21 of Jonesboro, graduated from Arkansas State College (ASU), retired from the Arkansas State Plant Board after 30 years of service and was a member of Community Fellowship Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Elijah and Verbie Angelina Burns of Ravenden Springs, Arkansas. Survivors include his wife Alta (Stallings) Burns, of the home; two sons, Warren Burns of Brookland, Arkansas and Russell Burns of Sherwood, Arkansas; daughter, Debbie (Burns) Woods of Cabot, Arkansas; one brother, Samuel Burns of Huntsville, Alabama; two sisters, Joyce (Burns) Moon of Jonesboro; Verlene (Burns) Pickett of Pocahontas, Arkansas; six grandchildren and four great grand children.
Funeral services will be 10:00 Friday at Emerson Funeral Home with Reverends Dave Burgess and Eudell Stroud officiating with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Rodney Burns, Zachary Woods, Gary Pickett, David Midkiff, David Burns, Craig Burns, Dick Sanders and Steve Case serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include Ray Noles, Ben Honeycutt, Guy Brinkley, L.J. Boyd, Jim Wooten, Fred Pearson, Bill Williams and Bill Harrison.
