Faith Cude Hooper

December 20, 1920 — November 7, 2006

Faith Cude Walker Hooper, 85, peacefully passed from this life on Tuesday evening, November 7, 2006, at Parkview Health and Rehab Center in Little Rock.

A native of Imboden, Arkansas, she is preceded in death by her parents, Burrel and Sue Park Cude; her husband, William Hooper and sisters, Hope Cude Johnston and Iona Lou Cude.

Mrs. Hooper was affectionately called “Rose” by her late husband. Her varied hobbies included reading, raising German Shepherds and camping. She was a perpetual teenager, involving herself with Jerry Faith’s activities and friends. She was competitive and outgoing, racing cars and cooking BBQ for the teenagers following ballgames and activities. She usually won the car races in which she was challenged by the boys.

With the same vigor, Faith encouraged her son Gerald while he served active duty overseas in the U.S. Air Force during the early 1960’s. She kept in touch with Gerald through letters and phone calls. Faith was often intrigued by Gerald’s mechanical ability. It was highlighted the day she arrived home to find the family car dismantled in the driveway. He promptly returned it to proper operating condition following her gentle persuasion.

Faith had a passion for education and dedicated her life to teaching, especially those who were mentally challenged and physically handicapped. She inspired many students to further their education. She took a special interest in Judy Walker’s pursuit of a Master degree in Speech Pathology and subsequent career.

Faith earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education; Master of Arts in Special Education and Master of Arts in Rehabilitation Counseling. In addition to teaching in general and specialized classrooms, she also worked as a licensed psychological examiner.
