Ezra Earl (Scotty) Maglothin, 71, of Jonesboro, AR died Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. He graduated from Trumann High School class of 1970. He received his BA degree from the University of Arkansas and completed his Juris Doctorate from the U of A School of Law in 1978.
He was the Deputy Prosecuting Attorney 4th Judicial District, and later became a partner in Putman, Galman, Dickson Law firm. The firm eventually became the Law Offices of EE Maglothin, Jr., where he practiced for over 20 years.
After returning to Jonesboro, he worked at the Mooney Law Firm and recently worked at Symbiotic Services in Dallas, TX.
He was preceded in death by his father Ezra E. Maglothin, stepmother Shirley Maglothin, stepfather Neil Bates, Infant sister Sherry Maglothin, sister Linda Bailey and his partner Vivian Pryor.
He is survived by his mother Bernice M. Bates of Jonesboro, Son Ezra E. Maglothin III (Shelley), daughter Erin E. Maglothin (Rick) and grandson Luke Mackey all of Fayetteville, and a brother Doug Maglothin (Deborah) of Jonesboro.
While living in Jonesboro, Scotty was a member of the Southwest Church and was active in the Celebrate Recovery program. Scotty led an interesting life; the kind of life books are written about. He read extensively and wrote poetry; he taught ESL and GED classes. He was a lawyer, a poet, and a fisherman.
