Everett Dick Bolton

December 27, 1916 — February 9, 2011

Everett Dick Bolton, 94, of Hot Springs, died February 9, 2011 at Quapaw Rehabilitation Center in Hot Springs. Born in Adamsville, Tennessee, Mr. Bolton was a member of Brookland Church of Christ. He attended and played football at Louisiana State University and Miami (Ohio) University. He received his Bachelor Degree in Physical Education from Arkansas State University and his Master Degree in Physical Education from Springfield (MA) College. He was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II having served in the Aleutian and Philippine Islands. He loved serving the Lord, taking care of his family, coaching kids, running, and physical fitness.

Among his many honors are being Jonesboro Sun Reader’s Choice Top Ten All-Time Athlete, ASU Letterman Club Hall of Honor Member, ASU Letterman in football, 1947 MVP in basketball and track, Former World Record Holder for Sit-Ups, Arkansas and National Senior Olympics Medalist, and Arkansas Senior Olympics Glenn Cunningham Award.

In his career he was the owner of the University Heights Golf Course in Brookland, Arkansas, Athletic Coach at Newport High School, Paragould High School, and Crowley’s Ridge Academy, Assistant Coach in football, basketball, track, and gymnastics at Arkansas State University, and Instructor in Physical Education at Arkansas State University.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Bolton, Hot Springs; daughter, Sarita Bolton Etter and her husband Bill, Hot Springs; son, Dick Bolton, Okalona, Arkansas; daughter, Terry Bolton, Jonesboro; stepson, Joe Crews and wife, Frances, Memphis, Tennessee; grandchildren, Michelle Dayton, Pittsburg, Kansas, Amy Hart and husband, Kevin, Jonesboro, Heather Scialoia, Amherst, MA, Tara Bolton, Jonesboro, Susan Boyer and husband, Jeremy, Vilonia, Stephanie Lyerly, Jonesboro, Angela Hankins, Malden, MO, Robert Etter, Washington, D.C.; great grandchildren, Meaghan Dayton, Conner Dayton, Dillon Bolton, Colton Hart, Logan Hart, Erica McKinney, Landon Boyer, J.D. Hogue, Ashley Hogue Dixon, Madison Stover, Phoenix Stover, Bella Byerly, Gabriella Copley, Jeffrey Hall, Emmalee Hankins, and Alice Hankins.

He was preceded in death by a wife, Jean Terwilliger Bolton; grandson, Scott Everett Bolton; great granddaughter, Jessica Hall Tate; brother, Hadley Bolton; sisters, Effie Lannom, Mable Bolton; and his parents, William & Maggie Howard Bolton.

Funeral services will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Winston Burton officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Log Cemetery. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be Saturday 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the staff of Quapaw Rehabilitation Center in Hot Springs for their excellent care for Mr. Bolton.

For lasting memorials, the family requests that consideration be given to Crowley’s Ridge Academy, The Children’s Homes both in Paragould, or Arkansas State University Athletics in Jonesboro.
