Evelyn Aviles Martinez was born on January 4, 1939 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. The daughter of Providencia Martínez y Miguel Aviles. On March 22, 2024, in Jonesboro, AR, at St. Bernards Hospital, surrounded by loved ones, Evelyn passed away. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Carlos, brother Pedro, and sister Iris.
Evelyn was a beautiful lady with the biggest heart. Having reached the age of 85, Evelyn had a long life filled with adventures, beauty, love, laughter, and all-encompassing joy revolving around family, her dear friends, and many, many cats. As a widow throughout most of her life, she showed her children the importance of hard work and self-sacrifice to provide for her family, yet creating a household built on faith and respect. Although she was born and raised in Puerto Rico, Evelyn traveled plenty throughout the United States to visit her children and grandchildren. Evelyn was a strong, independent woman who took this tenacity with her wherever she went. Along with traveling, she was a passionate domino player, and she also loved going to the casinos while ending the days watching her favorite telenovelas. Although there are many ways to describe and remember Evelyn, the most important one was the love and duty for her family, which she held so closely and dearly.
Her spirit and love will be remembered by her children: Iris Morales and her husband Nicholas, Carlos Ramos and his wife Nancy, Vanessa Ramos and her husband Jorje, and Loida Cazano and her husband Juan. Surrounded by them, her sister Carmen Rodríguez, and her grandchildren/great-grandchildren, Evelyn will be greatly missed but always remembered and loved.
Visitation will be held at Emerson Funeral Home on Saturday, March 30, 2024, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, and a memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm. Burial will be private.
