Essie Griffin Coe, 92, of Hardy, died Monday evening at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital. Born in Harrisburg, Ms. Coe moved to Otwell early in life and had lived in Hardy since 1956. She was a member of the Eastern Star, where she held several offices, a charter member of the Extension Homemaker Club and was very active in 4-H work. She was the owner/operator of the Merle Norman Studio in Hardy and loved to cook.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Virgil & Donna Griffin, of Hardy, Melvin & Glenda Griffin, of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Greg Griffin, Alan Griffin, Scott Griffin, Russ Griffin, Shelia Garner, Lisa Emerson, Cindy Elmore; 11 great grandchildren; and 1 great great granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Lawton Griffin; her parents, William Hiram & Blanche Shoper Anderson; a brother, Leland Anderson; and her sisters, Evelyn Gibson and Margaret Schilly.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at McDaniel Cemetery with Brother Bill Griffin officiating. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Active pallbearers will be Greg Griffin, Alan Griffin, Scott Griffin, Stan Salmons, Tony Elmore, Gregg Garner, and Toby Emerson.
Members of the Eastern Star will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Visitation will be Wednesday from noon until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
For lasting memorials, the family asks that consideration be given to the Eastern Star in Hardy, Otwell Christian Church, or McDaniel Cemetery.
