Emma Lee Sullinger

Emma Lee Sullinger, 78, formerly of Jonesboro, departed this life, on Tuesday, March
31, 2020 at Cooper Cottage Assisted Living Facility, Spring, Texas.  She was born to
the late William Arvil and Helen Jenkins Sullinger in Ravenden Springs, Arkansas on
April 11, 1941.

After graduating from West High School, Rockford, Illinois in 1958, Emma attended Blue
Mountain College in Blue Mountain, Mississippi receiving Bachelor of Arts and
Bachelor of Science degrees. Following graduation, she stayed on at Blue Mountain
College working in the Dean’s office. Later she continued her education at the
Mississippi University for Women, Columbus, Mississippi from which she received a
Master of Science degree.
In addition to working at Blue Mountain College, Emma worked for Dr. Joe T. Odle,
editor of the Mississippi Baptist Record. She also taught at Southwest Baptist College,
Bolivar, Missouri. Upon retiring from Exxon Mobil, she moved to Jonesboro to be near
her aging parents. She was an active member of Central Baptist Church before moving
to Buckner Retirement Village, Houston, Texas in 2010.
Emma loved her family and especially loved the holidays when the family gathered
together. She enjoyed traveling, having visited five of the seven continents in her earlier
years. She enjoyed her vast collection of dolls and accumulated a large collection of
Elvis memorabilia.
Emma is survived by her sister, Eula Sullinger Schell, Jonesboro; brother, Stan (Kima)
Sullinger, The Woodlands, Texas; nieces, Connie Schell Thuston, Teresa Diane
Sullinger, Melanie Schell Stone, Leeann Sullinger Taylor; nephews, Alan Schell, Stuart
Sullinger, Adam Sullinger, John Sullinger; 3 great nieces, 4 great nephews, 2 great
great nieces and 1 great great nephew and many cousins.  She was preceded in death
by her parents, one brother, Ralph Sullinger and one great niece.

The family will hold a private service at Jonesboro Memorial Park on April 5, 2020
officiated by her brother Reverend Stan Sullinger and coordinated by Emerson Funeral
Home of Jonesboro.
