Emma Sue Smelser, 73, of Jonesboro, died Tuesday morning at St. Bernard’s Medical Center. She had lived in Jonesboro since 1960 moving from Sedgwick. She was a member of North Main Baptist Church and was a past Matron of the Nettleton Order of Eastern Star, a member of the Jonesboro Order of Eastern Star, and a member of Queen Ann of Amaranth.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene & Polly Voyles Mason, her son, Jasper Smelser, and a sister, Margaret Price.
Mrs. Smelser is survived by her husband, Lehman Smelser, 2 daughters, Rita Kay Smelser and Annette Smelser, all of Jonesboro, and her sister, Glenna Whitlow of Paragould.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Rev. Bobby Crabbe and Rev. Gary Brown officiating. Burial will be at McDaniel Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Active pallbearers will be Gene Sterling, Gene Vance, Don Underwood, David Gillanders, Robert Riggsbee, Morris Wheelis, and Ed Cleaves.
Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that lasting memorials be made to St. Bernard’s Hospice, 2813 Forest Home Road, Jonesboro, AR 72401.
