Emma Jean Sweat, 82, of Jonesboro died Friday, January 30, 2009, at her home. She had lived in Jonesboro since 1965, moving here from Memphis, Tennessee and was a member of Southwest Church of Christ.
Mrs. Emma was one of the first special education teachers in the state of Arkansas and finished her career as a high school mathematics instructor. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.P. Sweat, her parents, and one sister Mozene. She is survived by two sons, Joseph Sweat III and wife Deborah, Dumas, Arkansas; John Sweat and wife Tommie Leigh, Collierville, Tennessee; one half sister, Carolyn Brooks; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Bro. Jimmy Adcox officiating and burial to follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers are John Yauger, Tommy Ford, Dallas Benson, Mark Ramsey, Kenneth Wyatt and Richard Wyatt. Visitation will be from 1:00 O’clock until service time.
