Emma Francway Hanners

August 27, 1919 — June 10, 2007

Emma Francway Hanners, of Jonesboro, died Sunday morning at the Craighead Nursing Center. Born in Forrest City, she had lived in Jonesboro since 1975, moving here from the Buckeye Community near Leachville. She was married in 1936 to Virgil J. Hanners, who preceded her in death. She was a farm wife and homemaker, co-owned a country store, Buckeye Store, with her husband in the late 1930s, and in her later years was a cosmetologist working throughout Northeast Arkansas.

As well as her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, Will & Elizabeth Richardson Francway; and her brothers and sisters, Henry Francway, Robert Francway, Ernest Francway, John Francway, Delia Davidson, and Blanche Winberry.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Gary Hanners of Jonesboro and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Monday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Dr. Alan Winberry officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Active pallbearers will be Jack Cude, J.R. “Guy” Robinson, and Cliff Winberry.

Honorary pallbearers will be Perry Cude, Dr. Ben Owens, Jr., John Denton, and Mrs. Billy Parish.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Arkansas Chapter of Little People of America, Chapter 67, Edwina Gleason, President, 524 W. 47th Street, Apt. C, North Little Rock, Arkansas 72118.
