Eloise Smith

Eloise Smith, 99, of Jonesboro, died Saturday at Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House. She had lived in Jonesboro since 1986 coming from Cedar Hill, Missouri. She was the 4th of 10 children. She taught school for 32 years, beginning in a one-room school at the age of 19. She also taught in Grubbs, Qulin, and retired in South Pittsburg, Tennessee.

She is survived by her children, Charles Jerald Smith, Hilda J. Wilcox, Barbara J. Geary, all of Jonesboro; brother, A.C. Pirtle; sister, Maggie Maden, both of Kentucky; 3 grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; 6 great-granddaughters; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Martin Smith; parents, Clarence & Lillie Barnard Stevens Pirtle; brothers, Arthur Pirtle, Charles Pirtle, Ivan Pirtle; sisters, Josephine Ralph, Cleone Patton, Gene Lewis, and Louise Sandefur.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Bill Willard officiating. Visitation will be 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Emerson Funeral Home.

Interment will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill Mortuary in Cedar Hill, Missouri.
