Elmer H. Holmes, 91, of Jonesboro, died Wednesday at St. Bernards Medical Center. He had lived in northeast Arkansas his entire life. He was a hard worker and was a farmer in his early life. He loved to play cards and dominoes with his friends at the nursing home, and usually won. He had competed in the Senior Olympics and had many ribbons and medals to show for it.
He is survived by his children, William Holmes, Jerry Holmes, both of Michigan, Louise Baty, Jonesboro, Jeanette Goff, Shirley Holmes, both of Michigan, Linda Burnett, Indiana; brothers, Milburn Holmes, Illinois, Chester Holmes; sister Phyllis Gandy, Trumann; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Birdie Jeanette Holmes; son, Billy Paul Holmes; daughters, Betty Faye Holmes, Jessie Marie Bullock; brother, Kenneth Holmes; parents, William Hardy & Lidia Rhodes Holmes.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Perry Tidwell officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Active pallbearers will be Tony Smith, John Yarbro, Chris Fears, Nick Barnett, Shawn Green, and Jeff Huffman. Honorary pallbearer is Taylor Huffman.
Visitation will be Friday 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
