Elma Ardonia Gibbs

Elma Ardonia Gibbs, 93, of Lake City, died Sunday, October 18, 2009, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

Elma was born November 17, 1915, in Clay County, Arkansas to John Matthew and Lula Mae Mannon.

She was united in marriage to Cecil William Gibbs on November 8, 1934. There were two children, one son, Rayford Gibbs and on daughter, Glenna Gibbs Matheney. She was a homemaker. She loved caring for her family and friends. She enjoyed quilting and embroidering. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Lake City.

Survivors include her daughter Glenna Matheney and husband Elton of Jonesboro; two grandsons Derring and Avondale Gibbs and wife Becky, all of Jonesboro; three granddaughters, Cynthia Gibbs of Jonesboro, Annette Engemann and husband Dan of High Ridge, Missouri, and Vicki Bland and husband Steve of Eads, Tennessee. Also one step granddaughter, Tina Simpson and husband David of Spring Branch, Texas; two great grandsons and three great granddaughters, one step great grandson, and two step granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Gibbs, her son, Rayford Gibbs, one grandson, Cletis Gibbs and one great granddaughter; two brothers and five sisters: Harold Mannon, Ezra Mannon, Geneva Christopher, Inez Hampton, Verlene Phillips, Beatrice Rucks and Gail Cantrell.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Ron Hampton and Andy Neal officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector.

Active pallbearers include: Derring Gibbs, Avondale Gibbs, Jeremy Gibbs, Dan Engemann, Steve Land and Zack Brower.

Visitation will be held Thursday morning from 10:00 until service time.

For lasting memorials, the family asks that consideration be given to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, American Alzheimer’s Foundation or the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation.
