Elaine Stanfield Freeman

Elaine Stanfield Freeman, 98, of Jonesboro, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital.

Elaine was born in Luxora, Arkansas, on January 26, 1920, and lived there with her parents, the late-Dovie and Percy Stanfield, and her three brothers and four sisters until she moved to New York City to attend Rutgers University and work as a Government Civil Servant during World War II. After the war ended, she moved to Memphis to work in the insurance business.

In 1960, Elaine met and married Elwood Freeman, Sr. and worked with her husband and stepson, Woody Freeman, at Elwood Freeman Company until her retirement.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Elwood Freeman, Sr., her three brothers, Percy, Forrest, Raymond Stanfield and four sisters, Lorraine McCain, Lillian Cole, Rayburn Cecil, and Wynette Elkins.

She is survived by her stepson and wife, Woody and Lynda Freeman of Jonesboro, two granddaughters, Brooks Freeman Brown and her husband, Todd Brown, of Marion and Tory Dee Freeman of Little Rock, and two great grandsons, Hudson Freeman Brown and Holden Worthing Brown of Marion, and a loving nephew and wife, Doyle and Jean McCain of Jonesboro, and their children and grandchildren, Connie and Danny Cook, Bryce and Sara Beth Cook and Wyatt, all of Jonesboro, and Grant Cook of Fayetteville and many more nieces and nephews.

Elaine loved her family and had an outstanding zest for life. She was an avid gardener, an accomplished and published poet, a devout Christian, and a lifelong and loyal Republican.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery in Jonesboro. Father Ron Martin of St. Timothy’s Anglican Church will officiate the graveside service.
