Edward Lawson “Ed” Quinn, 74, of Jonesboro, died Saturday morning, March 10, 2012, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.
Ed was born in Blytheville, a descendent of the first settlers of Osceola and Blytheville who came in covered wagons from South Carolina and Tennessee. Ed lived in West Memphis before moving to Jonesboro in 1977. He worked many years with his brother in the Jr. Food Groceries in northeast Arkansas. Later he operated Quinn’s Convenience Store on West Nettleton Ave. before retiring.
Ed served in the Tennessee National Guard and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Jonesboro. He enjoyed duck, dove and rabbit hunting as well as crappie fishing. Ed was preceded in death by his parents: James Wade Quinn and Jean Fisher Quinn Baehnel (spelling?) , and by a sister, Becky Gaines.
The family wishes to give a special thanks to Ed’s caregivers: Connie Needham and Jennifer Burton, Dr. Joel Epperson, Dr. Lance Tuetken, The staff of TCF unit of St. Bernards Medical Center, Dr. Bob Warner and the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House staff.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Breese Quinn of the home;
2 sons: Lt. Col. Edward Lawson Quinn, Jr. and wife Debbie Quinn of Vienna, Virginia, and
Gene Breese Quinn and wife Susanne Quinn of Oxford, Mississippi;
1 daughter, Sue Ann (Buffy) Johnson and husband Jeff Johnson of Jonesboro;
1 brother, James Wade Quinn and wife Johanna Quinn of Jonesboro; and
5 grandchildren: Mary Quinn Johnson and Abby Johnson, both of Jonesboro, Erin Quinn and Aidan Quinn, both of Oxford, and Anna Quinn of Vienna.
Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10:00 in Jonesboro Memorial Park with Rev. John Miles and Rev. Patty Soward officiating.
Pallbearers include Mike Johnson, Wade Quinn, III, Jim Quinn, Mark Gibson and Ron Tartt.
Visitation will be at graveside following the graveside service.
