Edward J. Galante

Edward J. Galante, 90, of Jonesboro died at his home on Saturday, March 4, 2006. Ed, “Poppy” was born in July 30, 1915 in Manhattan, N.Y. He lived in Whitestone N.Y. until he moved to Jonesboro in 1997. He was retired from the NYC Transit Authority. Ed served for 4 years in the U.S. Army Air Corp. and was stationed in Okinawa during WWII.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and was always active during the fall festival. He was a member of the 55 Plus Club, the Jonesboro Senior Life Center, Harlan Henry Sr. Club, Northeast Arkansas Sr. Center. He was a 3rd degree Knight of Knights of Columbus and a member of the VFW.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Frances. Three loving children – Sons, William E. Galante and wife Susan of Farmingville NY., Frank R. Galante and wife Collette of Temecula California; daughter Annie Ford and husband Paul of Jonesboro; 1 brother Joe Galante and wife Angie of Bayside NY and 1 sister Frances DiDominicas from Bayport NY. 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and many special nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Rosary will be from 6:00 – 6:30 Monday night at Emerson memorial Chapel followed by a visitation from 6:30 – 8:00. Burial will be Tuesday morning at 10:30 at Jonesboro Memorial Park followed by a memorial mass at 11:00 AM at Blessed Sacrament Church with Father Matt Garrison officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
