Edith Joyce Smith

September 12, 1946 — March 13, 2021

Edith Joyce Smith, 74, Jonesboro, was of Baptist belief passed through the gates of heaven to be with her Lord and Saviour, on Saturday, March 13, 2021, surrounded by her 3 daughters. She was born on September 12, 1946 to William Asbury (WA) and Altas Rodgers in Trumann.

Edith enjoyed life. She always had a smile, always laughing, and always cutting up. She loved going to the Casinos, yard sales, flea markets, and going fishing. She also loved buying things to decorate her house and for others. Everyone always had something to say about her southern drawl. She had a way to draw people to her. Once you knew her, you wouldn’t ever forget her. There was not one person she didn’t like. She loved her friends and family dearly.

She was preceded in death by her 1st love for over 30 years, to Earl Smith Jr. of Bay. Then, her 2nd love of 15 years, Jimmy “Cowboy” Nichols of Jonesboro. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step mom Maggie Hillard, 2 sisters, 1 brother, 2 step-sons.

Edith is survived by 3 daughters, Connie (Randall) Woods of Bay; Jeri (Randy) Nelson and Teri Ellis of Jonesboro; son, Shaun Smith of Missouri; step-daughter, Shelia Fore of Lake City; 3 brothers, Terry Bandy of Bay; Floyd (Gertie) Bandy of Paragould; and Ed (Bonnie) Bandy of Tacoma, Washington, and one special friend, Ola Mae Taylor of West Memphis.  Her grandchildren are Danielle Chaffin, Austin Ellis, Huntar Ellis, and 5 other grandchildren, with numerous great grandchildren and friends. She will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.  The family wants to send a special thanks to St. Bernard’s ER, ICU, 1st floor, Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House, Clopton Clinic and Emerson for taking care of our mother.
