Edith J. Childers, 88, of Jonesboro, passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at her home.
Born in Bono, Edith moved to Jonesboro in 1950 and lived most of her life here. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher for the little children and was active in the United Methodist Women. Edith loved to care for children and operated an in-house day care center for several years.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents: William Theo and Alma Mae Davis Dent; husband, Preston Childers; a brother, Charles "Bud" Dent; and a son-in-law, Mark James.
Survivors include one daughter, Karen Childers James of Jonesboro;
1 sister, Nina June Seabaugh of Jonesboro;
1 brother, Clarence "Scoot" Dent (Shirley) of Jonesboro;
1 granddaughter, Madison James and a step grandson, Jason James, both of Jonesboro;
3 step great grandchildren: Reagan, Sophie and Vann; and
Several nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m.- 12:00 noon Saturday at Emerson Funeral Home. A graveside funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Saturday in Trinity Cemetery near Bono with Rev. Charles Sigman officiating.
Pallbearers include nephews: Randy Dent, Brad Dent, Darren Dent, Walt Seabaugh, Phillip Kifer, Tony Kifer, Eric Kifer and Kyle Kelly.
