Edgar Morrison

Edgar Morrison, 89, departed this life Thursday, October 1, 2009, at Skilcare Nursing Center in Jonesboro. He was born March 25, 1920 to the late Frank and Mary Anderson Morrison, and was a life long resident of Bay. A graduate of Bay High School and Arkansas State College, he taught math and history over 30 years in the Bay school system and spent five years teaching in Hornersville and Steel, Missouri. Many of those years he coached both boys and girls basketball teams and was a member of the original committee that organized the annual NEA high school basketball tournament at ASU. He was able to attend 50 consecutive tournaments from 1948 through 1998.
Mr. Morrison was a past president of the Craighead County Historical Society and gave many presentations on the history behind several of our local communities. He was an avid photographer and his work entitled "Bay Area Historical Notes" was published in
1992.. Edgar was a devout Christian and faithfully attended First Baptist Church in Bay
until his failing health forced him to move to his son's home in Jonesboro three years ago.
He was honored to serve as a past grand marshall of Bay's Harvest Fest parade.

Mr. Morrison was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Aldean Gentry Morrison, who died September 26, 2008, his parents. and several siblings.

Survivors include his son, Eddie Morrison and wife, Jan; grandsons, Matt Morrison and wife Alison, Michael Morrison and wife Kimberly, granddaughter, Meredith Wills and husband Justin and -great-grandchildren, Jackson, Jillian, Maddox and Jake
Morrison and Jace Wills, all of Jonesboro.; two sisters, Betty Webb and Lois Stamp of Jonesboro and a step-brother, Burl Watts of Bay,

Graveside services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Dr. Bruce Tippit officiating, Visitation will be Saturday 5-7 p.m. at Emerson Funeral Home. Memorials may be sent to the Bay First Baptist Church, Bay, AR 72411.
