Edgar Chester Guest, 88, of Brookland, passed away April 25, 2024 at his home. He was born in Jonesboro to Chester Guest and Auddie Moore Guest.
Edgar, nicknamed “Popie,” was a lifetime resident of Brookland and was a faithful member of Brookland Church of Christ. Popie enjoyed spending time outside, deer hunting and devoting his life to farming. He loved reading, especially John Grisham novels and was a loyal fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks and St. Louis Cardinals.
In 1955, Popie married his high school sweetheart, Jane, and they spent 68 wonderful years together. Above all else, Popie adored his family and spending time with those he loved.
In addition to his parents, Popie is preceded in death by his brother, T.C. Guest.
Popie is survived by his beloved wife, Jane Guest, of the home; sons, Terry Wesley (Donna) Guest, Lance Allen (Nesha) Guest; and daughter, Kathy (Ike) Smith, all of Brookland; brother, Granville (Linda) Guest, of Brookland; grandchildren, DeShane (Stacie) Smith, Krissy (Jason) Cantwell, all of Brookland, Madison (Brett) Bloodworth, of Mountain Home, Rachel (Nate) Scarce, of Wisconsin, Matt (Jessie) Guest, of Deerfield, Florida, Wesley Aaron McInnis, of Memphis, Josiah (Nikki) Guest, of Auburn, Alabama, and Gabrielle Guest, of Brookland; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Brookland Church of Christ. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Jeff Heitman officiating. After the service, Popie will be laid to rest at Pine Log Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Chris Ayers, Lathan McLeod, Don Foster, Jason Pannell, Homer Lenderman, and Bobby Hinton. Jack Richardson, Roy Davenport, Jerry King, Gary Hill, and Dale Miller will serve as honorary pallbearers.
