Eddie Dean Wheeley, 74, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2025, at his home in Bono, surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 18, 1950, to Earl and Virginia Wheeley in Jonesboro, Eddie spent his life rooted in the Jonesboro and Bono communities.
Eddie was a man of the Baptist faith, and dedicated 25 years of service to the City of Jonesboro before retiring. He embraced the simple joys of life and found happiness in fishing, camping, and tinkering with lawnmowers, always eager to fix things for those he cared about. His passion for dancing brought smiles to many, but his greatest love was the time he spent with his family.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Little Eddie Wheeley; his sister, Wanda Wheeley; and his brothers, Gerald, Kenneth, Wayne, and Jack Wheeley.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Mable Wheeley of the home; his daughter, Cindy Reed, and her husband, David, of Bono; his sisters, Helen Oden of Jonesboro, Barbara Haggard and her husband, Richard, of Jonesboro, and Marie Woodard and her husband, Larry, of Bono. Eddie’s legacy also lives on in his five grandchildren, Tyler Pinkerton, Johnathan Schrader, Latisha Oden, Natalie Schrader, and Brody McMurry; twelve great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of friends.
Visitation will take place on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at Emerson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Emerson Funeral Home, officiated by Tonya Barber. Eddie will be laid to rest at Pine Log Cemetery, with Tyler Pinkerton, Johnathan Schrader, Brody McMurry, John Jenness, Roxy Crawford, and Bobby Crawford serving as pallbearers.
