Eddie Don Morrison, 61, of Jonesboro, died Monday, May 17, 2010, at his home.
Eddie was the owner of the newly established Café 18 East where he enjoyed his passion for cooking and serving his patrons. He also managed his own residential and farm property. He had been a school teacher, a cotton and rice farmer, a building contractor and a Little League coach. With the help of his family, Eddie started, nurtured and sold seven businesses over the past 30 years.
A graduate of Bay High School and Arkansas State University, he was an outstanding athlete and an All-State member of Bay’s only State Championship basketball team in 1965. He was awarded an athletic scholarship to ASU where he lettered in both basketball and baseball.
Eddie’s faith, family and friends-in that order- were the most important things in his life and he was a member of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro.
Eddie was the only child of Edgar and Aldean Morrison. When his parents became ill, he moved them into his home and was their principal caregiver until their deaths in 2008 and 2009.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jan Pulley Morrison; his sons and their wives, Matt and Alison Morrison and Michael and Kimberly Morrison and his daughter and her husband, Meredith and Justin Wills; and his five grandchildren who were the joy of his life, Jackson, Jillian, Maddox and Jake Morrison and Jace Wills.
Funeral services will be Thursday morning, May 20, at 11:00 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Bruce Tippit officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.
Active pallbearers include Dr. Joe George, Bob Appleton, Melvin McMasters, Jerry Barnes, Dr. Tom Isbell, Scott Taylor, Tim Pulley, and Jordan Tedder.
Honorary pallbearers include Don Pausch, Ben Hyneman, Carl Schuchardt, Dr. Mike Tedder, Zach Morrison and Steve Moody.
Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, 5-7, at Emerson Funeral Home.
For lasting memorials, the family asks that consideration be given to First Baptist Church, 701 S. Main, Jonesboro, AR 72401, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
