Ed Wilson, 73, of Jonesboro, died Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at his home. He was born in West Plains, Missouri but had lived in Jonesboro most of his life. Ed loved trains and enjoyed working in his yard. He especially enjoyed being with his family and grandchildren. He was a member of a special group of military retirees known as the Wednesday Morning Coffee Group. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He was a retired officer from the Arkansas National Guard with 22 years of service with the rank of Captain. He was also a retired HVAC and Appliance Repair instructor at the Jonesboro Vo-Tech. He was an active participant in VICA with multiple state and national medal winners. He was a member of the Jonesboro Masonic Lodge, and was a member of the Crowley’s Ridge Chapter OES. He also had served 10 years on the school board for Nettleton Public Schools. During the Little Rock Central High Crisis in 1957, Ed served for the entire 9 months supporting the 101st Airborne.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Delores Wilson, of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Brad & Deanna Edgar, Jonesboro, Tony & Denise Wilson, Maumelle, Jeff & Dana Edgar, Jonesboro, Chris & Paulina Wilson, Auburn Hills, Michigan; daughter and son-in-law, Cyndi & Wes Williams, Jonesboro; brothers, Jim Wilson, Birmingham, Alabama, George Wilson, Jonesboro, Sam Wilson, of Powhatan but now assigned to FOB Hammer, Iraq; 8 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Dee & Dorothy Lambe Wilson; brothers, Robert Dee Wilson, David Michael Wilson; and sister, Barbara Ann Wilson.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, September 9, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church with Father Jack Vu officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Wednesday Morning Coffee Group.
Visitation will be Thursday 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Blessed Sacrament School, 614 S. Church, Jonesboro, Arkansas, 72401 or a charity of choice.
