E. L. “Monk” Pickering, 95, of Jonesboro died December 24, 2008 at NEA Baptist Hospital. He was born in Pontotoc, Mississippi and had lived in Northeast Arkansas since 1927. He was a farmer and a member of Revival Tabernacle in Bono.
Monk was preceded in death by Nora Earline Eaton Pickering, wife; Donald Wayne Pickering, Son; five brothers, two sisters and granddaughter, Christy Pickering. He is survived by his children, Wilma Wright, Jonesboro; Joanne Beason, Jonesboro; Harold D. Pickering, Bono, Arkansas; Jimmy R. Pickering, Jerry Pickering, Emmett Pickering, Sue Neal, Kay Wimpy and Lynn Tubbs, all of Jonesboro; two brothers, Jack Pickering, Virginia; and Billy Gene Pickering, Jonesboro; two sisters, Lucy Gifford and Eunice Griffey, both of Jonesboro; twenty grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will 2:30 Saturday, December 27, 2008 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Brother Dub Holt and Brother Jerry Jolly officiating and burial to follow in Herman Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 Friday night at the funeral home.
