Dr. Lyman B. Hagen, 86, of Jonesboro, Arkansas, died Saturday, July 19, 2008, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.
Born in Austin, Minnesota and raised in Everett, Washington, Dr. Hagen lived in Washington before moving to Jonesboro in 1969. He was a Professor Emeritus of English at Arkansas State University and also retired from the U.S. Army with the rank of Lt. Colonel. Dr. Hagen was a W.W. II veteran and had 30 years total active and reserve military service.
Dr. Hagen earned Bachelor and Master Degrees from the University of Washington and a Ph. D. degree from the University of Portland He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Jonesboro and a member of American Association of University Professors. He was a founding member and past-president of the ASU chapter of the AAUP. He held memberships in Military Officers of America Association, American Legion, Elks, VFW, and Friends of the Library.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia “Pat” Hagen.
Survivors include:
1 Daughter and Son-in-law: Theresa Louise “Terry” and David Bullock of Columbus Ohio ;
1 Brother: Alvin G. “Gerald” Hagen of Albuquerque, New Mexico;
1 Granddaughter: Elizabeth Louise “Ellie” Bullock of Columbus, Ohio; and
1 Nephew, Mark and 4 Nieces, Janet, Carol, Joan, and Jean.
A funeral mass will be held Wednesday morning at 10:00 at Blessed Sacrament Church with Rev. Father Mark Wood officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Everett, Washington .
Visitation will be held Tuesday evening, 5-7, at Emerson Funeral Home.
A rosary service will be held at 7:00 Tuesday evening.
