Dr. Lorna Layton

Lorna Marie Clarke-Layton, 51 of Jonesboro departed this life on Friday, June 22, 2018. She was born in St. James, Jamaica to the late Valerie Leonne Clarke on July 26, 1966. Lorna grew up in Queens, New York cherished by her family and friends. She knew at an early age that she wanted to be a physician to make a difference in people’s lives. Lorna attended New York University and Columbia University School of Medicine.

Lorna found immense joy in her work as a doctor, for which she was perfectly suited. Her sweet, kind, and tender spirit drew others to her and put them immediately at ease. She relocated to Waldorf, Maryland in 1996 after marrying her husband Michael Layton. In 2002 they moved to Jonesboro, Arkansas where Lorna joined the NEA Baptist Clinic family as an OB/GYN.

Theirs was a beautiful 21-year marriage exuding love and devotion for each other every step of the way. On January 11, 2005, their union was blessed even more, with the birth of their precious daughter Gabrielle Marie (Gabby). When she wasn’t taking care of her patients, Lorna enjoyed traveling, reading, and spending time with her family.
Lorna is preceded in death by her mother Valerie and uncle Patrick. In addition to her immediate family of her husband Michael and her daughter Gabby, she leaves behind her brother Conrad, uncle Beauclerc and his wife Faye, cousin Andrew and his wife Juanita, Aunt Angie and her husband Harvey; mother-in-law Mercia; sister-in-law Brenda and her husband Scott; nephews Phillip, Malik, and Marcus; nieces Bailey, Kenya, Corissa and Aubrey; brother-in-law Edwin; her family in Scotland:

A memorial service will be held on at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, June 29, 2018, at the Newman Catholic Center with Father Alphonse Gollapalli, officiating. Burial will be private with Emerson Funeral Home in charge. There will be no visitation.
