Dr. Lloyd "Ike" Isaacson, Dvm

April 5, 1918 — March 31, 2011

Former Marshall County veterinarian and County Executive, Dr. L.L. Isaacson, 92, died at home Thursday, March 31st of natural causes.

He was born in Braham, Minnesota, April 5, 1918. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Hilma Isaacson, brothers, Carl, Ray, and Clarence and one sister, Ruth Erickson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Virginia Locke Isaacson, his son and daughter and law, Michael and Julie Isaacson, his daughters and sons in law, Bill and Sarah Menkel, Alan and Allison Dunaway and 8 grandchildren, Erick and Locke Isaacson, Will, Alexandra and John Lloyd Menkel, and Taylor, Preston and Erin Leigh Dunaway.

Dr. Isaacson received his veterinary degree from Kansas State University and then served as a captain in the Army, 10th Mountain Division, in World War II. He served for two years in Italy and for one year in the Philippines.

Before entering private practice, he taught at Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine. He was one of Marshall County’s foremost leaders in the practice of veterinary medicine. He contributed greatly to Marshall County where his passion for veterinary medicine resulted in a dozen Marshall County boys growing up to become veterinarians. “Ike” was recognized for these efforts with the Lifetime Achievement Award in Veterinary Medicine presented by the Tennessee Veterinary Medical Association.

He was community minded and was always willing to encourage young people. His concern for all was genuine and he enjoyed being involved in the lives of others. He passed on to many a good work ethic, honesty, decency and integrity. Ike was a family man and a mentor. Dr. Isaacson was a member of the United Methodist Churches of Lewisburg, Tn. and Jonesboro, Ar., the Rotary Club, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Chamber of Commerce.

Please join the family in visitation and celebration of the life of Ike Isaacson, Sunday, April 3, 2011, 3-5pm at the Jonesboro Country Club. A private memorial service will be held in the chapel of First United Methodist Church on Monday, April 4, 2011.
