Dr. Joseph Thomas (Joe T.) Wilson, Jr., 84, of Jonesboro departed this life Friday, April 23, 2021 at Saint Bernard’s Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.


He was born in Camden, Arkansas and grew up in Pocahontas. He graduated from Pocahontas High School (1954) then attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville where he was very involved with the Sigma Chi Fraternity. Joe T. attended the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock (1961). He was a Commander in the United States Navy. He then completed his residency at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Joe T., his wife Gail and their 3 children moved to Jonesboro in 1970 where he joined the practice at Doctors Pathology Services.

Joe T. was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Jonesboro where he was ordained as an Elder. He taught an adult Sunday school class and served on many committees. He had a special calling for mission outreach and went on two medical mission trips to Honduras. He
also served his community through Craighead County Community Foundation and Helping Neighbors Food Pantry.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Tom and Mary Wilson, one niece, Valerie Wilson Gramling, and one great-nephew, Wilson Foltz.


He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gail;, his son, Russell (Teresa) Wilson of Conway; his daughters, Karen (Bryan) Farley of Jonesboro; and Lisa (Jonathan) Snyder of Fayetteville; his sister Rosemary (Dr. Mike) Davis of Little Rock; his brother Dr. Mike (Mary Lou) Wilson of
Gainesville, GA; his grandchildren Allison Anderson, Bethany Hurley, Christopher Wilson, Kyle Rega, Elicia Blake, Mary-Kaitlin Price, Dalton Price, Joseph Farley, Faithe Snyder, Hope Snyder, Eden Snyder, and Deacon Snyder and 8 great grandchildren, Olivia Garner, Owen Garner, Opal Anderson, Jett Grissom, Ellen Hurley, Saylor Hurley, Nyla Holtkamp, Marilynn Farley; and his caregiver Lee Lloyd, as well as 3 nieces and 2 nephews and numerous family and friends.


All friends and family are invited to join in celebrating Joe T’s life. Visitation is on Saturday, May 1 from 1:30 to 3:00 followed immediately by a memorial service at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Rev. Stephen Moody officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Don Vollman, Dr. Glen Baker, Dr. Bob Stainton, physicians and staff of Doctors Anatomic Pathology Services, members of Craighead-Poinsett Medical Society, and members of the Catfish Club.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to one of the following: Craighead County Community Foundation, 407 Union St. Jonesboro AR 72401; Ferncliff Camp and Conference Center, 1720 Ferncliff Rd, Little Rock AR 72223; Helping Neighbors Food Pantry, 900 W. Huntington, Jonesboro AR 72401; or to the charity of your choice.
