Dr. Joseph “J.P.” Sweat Jr., 82, of Jonesboro, passed away Wednesday January 23, 2008 at his home of natural causes.
He was born in Weldon, Arkansas and lived in Jonesboro since 1965, moving here from Memphis, Tennessee. He was retired chairman of secondary education and administration at Arkansas State University, where he worked for twenty five years. He also worked for Memphis State for two years and was a WWII Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Ora Dale Sweat, two brothers, and one sister.
Survived by his loving wife; Emma Sweat of the home.
Two sons; Joseph Sweat III and his wife Deborah of Dumas, Arkansas.
John Sweat and his wife Tommie Leigh of Collierville, Tennessee.
Four Grandchildren
Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday January 26, 2008 at Emerson Memorial Chapel, with Dr. Jimmy Adcox officiating. Burial will be at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge.
Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until service time Saturday January 26, 2008 at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
Active pallbearers will be Dr. Carl Vaupel, John Yauger, Richard Wyatt, Kenneth Wyatt, Mark Ramsey and Tommy Ford.
