Dr. Jack R. Jones, 89, of Jonesboro passed from this life on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at NEA Baptist Hospital. Dr. Jack R. Jones graduated with his Doctoral Degree in Veterinarian Science from the University of Auburn. He started his practice in May 1952 here in Jonesboro.  He was a member of New Haven Church of Christ.  He taught adult bible class for many years. He was involved with many organizations throughout his career that included Jonesboro Rotary Club, Omega Tau Sigma Fraternity, Master Gardeners, Northeast Arkansans for Animals, American Veterinary Medical Association, and he spent many years serving as the Veterinarian for the city of Jonesboro.

Dr. Jack R. Jones spent his life taking care of animals and the people who loved him. His esteemed career started with Animal Medical Center in Jonesboro. He and his late wife, Betty, ran the practice for decades, providing excellent care at affordable prices. After the sale of his clinic to Dr. John Huff, Dr. Jones spent almost two decades helping the less fortunate pet owners through NAFA’s low cost vaccination clinics and $10 male cat neuters. Dr. Jones also spent countless hours helping NAFA with more than100 recues.

Dr. Jones was not only a brilliant diagnostician; he was thorough, compassionate and went the extra steps to help his animal patients and their loving owners. In the past ten years Dr. Jones saw over 10,000 patients through low cost services and rescues throughout Northeast Arkansas. But more than just a vet, he was a friend to so many. He always had a cherry word or wonderful colloquialism for those around him. His willingness to share his 89 years of knowledge was legendary. He was respected by patients, clients, veterinarians, officials and rescue people across the state. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Estelle Floyd Jones, and by his first wife, Betty Jean Jones.  He is survived by his loving wife, Frances Jones of the home; sons, Johnny Jones and Phillip (Zita) Jones both of Jonesboro, daughter, Jennifer Powell of Jonesboro; step-sons, Mike (Wanda) Beasley of Virginia, and Patrick (Jenny) Beasley; step-daughter,  Tammie (Carl) Kirkendoll of Jonesboro; nine grandchildren, Reece Jones, Lexi Jones, Melissa (Daniel) Grigsby, Whitney (Cary) Strosnider, Grant (Rachel) Beasley, Emily Kirkendoll, Matt Kirkendoll, Dillan Bruce, and Johnathan Bruce; and great grandson, Jaxson Gadberry and six other great grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.
