Dr. J. W. “Jim” Basinger, 74 of Jonesboro died Sunday, February 18, 2007 at his home. He was born in Rudy, Arkansas and moved to Jonesboro in 1974 from Tampa, Florida. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and a choir member.
After graduating from Trumann High School, he attended Arkansas State University and UAMS Medical School. He completed his medical residency in Tampa before moving to Jonesboro.
He was a member of the Arkansas Medical Society, Jonesboro Rotary, Trumann Alumni Association, the Craighead-Poinsett Medical Society and an avid Razorback fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Jessie Basinger and his daughter, Marsha Basinger.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley of the home; one son, Matt Basinger, Little Rock; a brother Gary John Basinger, Idaho Falls, Idaho; two sisters, Dorothy Martin, Trumann, Arkansas; Ann Martin, Little Rock, Arkansas; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
There will be a private graveside service at 10:15 A.M., Wednesday, February 21, 2007 followed by a celebration of his life at 11:00 A.M. at First Baptist Church with Dr. Bruce Tippit officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Honorary pallbearers are the Deacons of First Baptist Church, members of Rotary, and the Medical Society. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 Tuesday night at Emerson Funeral Home.
