Dr. J. Troy Prince, 86, of Jonesboro, died Thursday afternoon at NEA Medical Center. Dr. Prince’s career is marked with many accomplishments. Among those are attending Mississippi College and William Carey College. He was pastor of Friendship Baptist Church in McComb, Mississippi; Professor of Bible at Clark College in Newton, Mississippi; Pastor of First Baptist Church in Carthage, Mississippi; Director of Missions in Meridian, Mississippi; Pastor of Southside Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Executive Director of the Alaska Baptist Convention in Anchorage, Alaska. While he was the Director of Missions and Evangelism in Alaska, the group started 23 churches. Dr. Prince was the editor of the Alaska Baptist State Paper, “The Alaska Baptist Message”. While Missions Director at First Baptist Church in Jonesboro, he assisted in the development of Magnolia Road Baptist Church and South Caraway Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Prince.
He is survived by his wife, Georgie Prince, Jonesboro; one son, Dr. Michael Prince, Jonesboro; two daughters, Berryl Seal, Webb City, Missouri, Deborah Baker, Mountain Home; one sister, Flora Mae Cooper, Shreveport, Louisiana; 5 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Dr. Bruce Tippit officiating. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Active pallbearers will be John Cooper, Major Fant, Dan Berardi, Brian Seal, Craig Treadway, and Jim Porter.
Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
