Dr. Don Konold

Dr. Donald Konold, 89, died Friday September 20 from Prostate Cancer. Donald was born in Dexter, Kansas in 1924.

He attended Texas A&M until he joined the war effort in WWII. He was stationed in France where he met his future wife of 59 years, Flore Dupuis. Upon his return to the US, he earned his Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD degrees in History from the University of Missouri. He came to ASU in 1954 as a professor of History. In his 39 years of service at ASU he not only was a professor Emeritus of History but served as History Department Chairman, Acting Dean of Liberal Arts, Acting Vice President of Academic Affairs, and was faculty sponsor of Lambda Chi Fraternity. He was the author of many books and articles on American medical ethics and biographies. Don was an avid gardener and golfer. In his later years he could be seen getting his exercise walking miles along Jonesboro streets.

Donald was preceded in death by his wife Flore Dupuis Konold February 11, 2005.

He was survived by his brother Richard Konold; son Danny Konold; daughters Alma Susan Mancabelli, Laurie Gee and Rose Konold Woelk and 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

An informal memorial service will be at Emerson Funeral Home Wednesday September 25, 2013 from 3-5 P.M. at 1629 E. Nettleton Jonesboro, Ar.
