Dr. Dennis C. Rousey, age 64 of Jonesboro, died suddenly in his home on Thursday, May 12. Dennis taught for 38 years as a History Professor at Arkansas State University. His book, “Policing the Southern City: New Orleans, 1805-1889,” was published by the Louisiana State University Press in 1996. He also wrote numerous articles published in scholarly journals on his research interests, especially urban life and law enforcement in the 19th century South.
Dennis was a loving husband, caring father, and beloved brother. He was also adored by two cats and an Irish Wolfhound. He had a passion for travel. He loved parachuting, biking, hiking and anything which represented a challenge.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Merle and Nancy Rousey, and his stepson, Bryan Harvey. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo, a son Matthew, one sister Linda van Doornik, his brother-in-law Christopher Lawrence, brother-in-law Mike van Doornik, and one granddaughter, Taylor Harvey.
A visitation and celebration of his life will be held Monday, May 16 from 5 - 7 pm at Emerson’s Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the National Fibromyalgia Association, or the Janna Lambert Scholarship Fund at ASU for student historians.
