Dr. Clarence Edward Gossett

March 14, 1926 — November 10, 2005

Dr. Clarence Edward “Ed” Gossett, 79, of Jonesboro, died Thursday, November 10th. Born to Roy W. & Flossie M. Gossett, March 14, 1926.

A graduate of Trumann High School, he received a B.A. from the University of Arkansas, his M.D. from Vanderbilt, an M.P.H. from Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Gossett was Board Certified in Aerospace Medicine and Otorhynolaryngology.

Retired from the United States Navy in 1975 as a Captain. Military highlights include working on the Gemini Space Flights, Medical Officer on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVA-42), SR Medical Officer Kingsville, TX and Chief of ENT at the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute Pensacola, FL.

Upon retirement as Captain, MC, USN, Dr. Gossett went into private practice, joining Dr. William R. Eddington until 1988. Following retirement from private practice, Dr. Gossett joined the Administrative Staff at St. Bernard’s Medical Center before retiring completely in 1995.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Gloria Glover Gossett, four children, Bill Gossett, Roy (Bonita) Gossett and Beth ( Michael) Brown, all of Jonesboro and Larry (Susan) Gossett of Little Rock, 12 Grandchildren, Jim Gossett, Danielle Pittman, Bob Gossett, Heather Davis, Marcus Beasley, Cyndi Hughes, Amber Smith, Bradley Gossett, Ryan Gossett, Kaitlyn Klauder, Olivia Klauder and Daisy Klauder and 9 Great Grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be representatives from the United States Navy. Honorary pallbearers include Dr. William R. Eddington, Dr. Owen Clopton, David Vaughn, John Keller, Dr. Veryl Hodges, Ben E. Owens and the Craighead County Medical Society.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Emerson Funeral Home. Services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Limuel G. Parks officiating.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, St. Bernard’s Hospice or St. Bernard’s Development Foundation.
