Dr. Charles W. Ford, 79, of Jonesboro, died Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center. He had lived in Jonesboro since 1969, moving here from Starkville, Mississippi. Dr. Ford received his bachelor’s degree and D.B.A. from Mississippi State University, and his master’s degree from Memphis State University. He taught at Arkansas State University for 37 years and was the Chairman of the Department of Marketing and Management for 19 years. He was the recipient of the 100 Distinguished Professors award from ASU. Charles was a member of Kappa Alpha Order fraternity and served as the chapter advisor at ASU. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served on the Board of Directors of the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas. He had many hobbies which included fishing, photography, ASU football, traveling, stamp collecting and his family. His grandchildren referred to him as “PaPaw”. He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Mary Ford.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Ann Ford, of the home; sons, Charles Wade Ford Jr. (Kim) of Plano, Texas; Mike Ford (Erin) of Simpsonville, South Carolina.; daughter, Lynne Wingfield (Jerry) of White, Georgia; brother, Alan “Butch” Ford (Linda) of Counce, Tennessee; sister Maribeth Chism of Forrest City, Arkansas and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 4, 2019, at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Reverend Patty Soward officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Honorary pallbearers are Steve Replogle, Roland Mullins, John Kaminarides, Bob Ferralasco, Charles Yauger and Sam Cousley. Visitation will be Sunday, March 3, 2019 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. in the Emerson State Room.
