Dr. Al McRaven, 91, of Jonesboro, died Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at Ridgecrest Nursing Center. He had lived in Jonesboro since 1965. He was of the Methodist belief and a retired professor and division chair for the Division of Counselor Education and Phycology at Arkansas State University. He was a true ASU Indian fan, but accepted the Red Wolves. Big Al was an avid reader and enjoyed jogging. Dr. McRaven was recognized as one of the Distinguished First 100 Faculty to serve ASU in the first Century. He played basketball in high school, college and while he was in the US Navy. He served his country during WWII in the US Navy. He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Maggie McRaven of the home; daughters, Dr. Claudia Tolleson (Woody) of Little Rock; Dr. Sandra Massey (Ward) of Newport. Big Al’s grands were, Brittany Massey and Reese Massey (Stacy Brinker); great grandkids were Maggie McKelroy, Ava McKelroy, and Maybelle Scout Massey.
A memorial service will be 2:00 PM, Friday, November 9, 2018, at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Dr. Woody Tolleson officiating. Burial will be private and under the direction of Emerson Funeral Home.
