Doyle E. Gilliam, 84, a lifetime resident of Jonesboro, died Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at NEA Baptist Hospital. He was a member of the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church for over 52 years and was the Chairman of the PRIDE Committee. A driving force in getting the Jonesboro schools rebuilt after the 1973 tornado. Doyle proudly served his country as a Sargent in the U.S. Army 101 Airborne Division during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Carole Gilliam, of the home; son, Dr. Arnold E. Gilliam of Jonesboro; daughter, Andrea DeBerry (David) of Hernando, Mississippi; brothers, Merle Gilliam of Collage Station, Texas; Morris Gilliam of Jonesboro; sister, Faye Gilliam of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Aaron Gilliam, Rachel Barnett, Cooper Skelton, and Chloe Skelton.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Doyle will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, June 2, 2018 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church with the most Reverend Hannah Hooker officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Interment will follow in the columbarium at St. Marks. Honorary pallbearers are the Men’s Club at St. Marks. There will be no public visitation. A reception following the interment will be held at the church.
