Dovie M. Bennett, 74, of Jonesboro died December 23, 2010 at her home. She was born in Newport to Jack & Inez Heizer Weaver. A devout Christian, she enjoyed reading, loved being with her family, and liked visiting at retirement homes when she was able. She was a retired speech pathologist who was retired from the Jonesboro Human Development Center. She thoroughly enjoyed her job and working with her clients. After her retirement, her office was turned into “Dovie’s Internet Café”. She was a longtime member of Philadelphia Baptist Church but was received into the Catholic Church December 15, 2010.
She is survived by her children, Harrison Thomas Bennett III, Cynthia Bennett Hendrix, Cissy Bennett, all of Jonesboro; and her sister, Freda George, Muscatine, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harrison Thomas Bennett, Jr.; brother, Norman L. Joslin; and sister, Katherine Zaehringer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church with Father Jack Vu officiating. Burial will follow at Philadelphia Cemetery. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
There will be no visitation.
The family requests that, rather than sending flowers, lasting memorials be made to Jonesboro Human Development Center, 4701 Colony Drive, Jonesboro, Arkansas, 72404 or Blessed Sacrament Church Society of St. Vincent de Paul, 614 S. Church, Jonesboro, Arkansas 72401.
