Douglas Dwight Hamby of Jonesboro, departed this life on September 17, 2023 at the Flo and Phil Hospice House, at the age of 75, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 4, 1948 to his parents Jack and Auddie Hamby. Dwight spent his formative years in Bono but called Jonesboro home for the past 50 years, after he married the love of his life Sandra on June 1, 1973.
Dwight dedicated 33 years of his life to Delta Toolbox, where he worked diligently in the shipping department. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and watching baseball, with a special place in his heart for the St. Louis Cardinals. He also found enjoyment in watching classic westerns, such as Gunsmoke. However, his greatest joy came from spending quality time with his cherished family, especially his grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jackie and Gary Hamby. He is survived by his devoted wife, Sandra, of their Jonesboro home; daughter Amy Hamby of Jonesboro; sons Justin Hamby and wife Cassie of Fayetteville, Arkansas. Jarrod Hamby and wife Shelly of San Diego, California. He leaves behind four sisters: Glenna Mathes of Jonesboro, Chrylene Noblin of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Connie Wortham of Violet Hill, Arkansas, and Tammy Deiss of Birmingham, Alabama. His legacy continues through seven grandchildren: Dakota Brewer, Jacob Brewer, Lexi Rost, Olivia Hamby, Jessika Price, Adyson Hamby, and Jack Hamby, as well as one great-grandchild, Abby Brewer.
Funeral service for Dwight will be held at Emerson Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday September 20, 2023 officiated by Tony Miller. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, followed by the service at 10:30 AM. Interment will take place at Trinity Cemetery in Bono.
Serving as pallbearers are Seth Wortham, Jason Wortham, Ricky Mathes, Erik Mathes, Matt Parker, and Blake Parker. Honorary pallbearers include Wally Russell, Jim Bryant, Victor Beaty, Larry Beaty, and Bill Birdsell.
