Dorothy Ellen Brown

Dorothy Ellen Brown, 83, of Jonesboro, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026 at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital. She was born in Athens, Alabama on September 18, 1942 to Perry Whitehead and Ruby Rouse Whitehead.

Dorothy spent her childhood years in Alabama before moving to northeast Arkansas with her family. She was a graduate of Harrisburg High School. Dorothy loved reading and could always be found with a book nearby. She was also a talented quilter and sewer. Above all else, Dorothy adored her grandchildren and cherished time spent with them.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, F.M. “Shorty” Brown, six brothers, and nine sisters.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Nioka (Barry) Clayton of Jonesboro and Tania Brown McGaha of Jonesboro; sister, Peggy (Wayne) Anema of Mountain Home; granddaughters, Amber (Josh) Ferguson and Ashley (Spencer) Douglas; great-grandchildren, Jett Ferguson, Lynley Ferguson, Lilly Douglas; and many nieces, nephews, and beloved family members.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Active pallbearers include: Calvin Williams, Daniel Williams, Jason Barnhill, Josh Ferguson, Tom Jones, and Wayne Anema. Honorary pallbearer is Jett Ferguson.
