Dorothy Louise Bailey

April 30, 1935 — March 22, 2019

Dorothy Louise Bailey, 83, of Jonesboro Arkansas, passed away March 22nd, 2019 with her family by her side from complications caused by pneumonia.

Dorothy was born to the late William Powell and Irene Bowers on a beautiful spring day, April 30th, 1935 in Clear Lake Arkansas. She graduated from Burdette High School in 1953 and received a Business Degree from the Business School of Arkansas State College. She loved to work and was a retired insurance agent and transitioned to working at 49 South Antiques four days a week. She loved greeting customers, visiting with them, and helping them find their purchase even six weeks before her illness took her life. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Blytheville Arkansas.

Dorothy married the late, Cecil Bailey on July 4th, 1955 in a quaint ceremony surrounded by a few family and friends in a little country church in Clear Lake. On July 4th, their anniversary was always celebrated with fireworks, just like their relationship began.  She is survived by her sons, Greg Bailey and Roger Carter of Jonesboro; her daughter, Cynthia McCustion; son-in-law Mark McCustion; and her precious granddaughter, Kathryn Bailee McCustion of Blytheville. Her greatest role was being a mother. She loved her children and was very proud of all their accomplishments big or small. Bailee knew her as “Nana.” Nana and Poppy loved her dearly and could not wait for the arrival of their one and only grandchild, Bailee. She also leaves behind her 49er’s family and a host of women she cared for dearly. She is predeceased by her loving husband Cecil Bailey; her mother, Irene Bowers; her father W.E. Powell and her step-father, Gene Bowers.

Dorothy learned to play the piano at an early age and passed her love of music onto her children and granddaughter. She loved her Yorkies, Jasmine and Mimi, fondly known as her fur babies. They had become her social media darlings. Her wallpaper on her iPhone is her granddaughter holding the Yorkies. Hardly a picture was taken of her without at least one Yorkie in her arms. Her Yorkies were groomed and dressed daily with matching clothes and bows. You might be an avid dog lover if you have these same routines with your fur babies.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 24th, 2019 at 2:00 o’clock p.m. at Emerson Funeral Home with Rev. Patty Sword officiating.  Music will be by the Carter Family. A burial service will be in Blytheville Arkansas at the Dogwood Cemetery in the Mausoleum. Her family will be there as she is laid to rest by her dear husband and they welcome friends to join them with Emerson Funeral Home in charge.

Pallbearers will be Lucky Carter, Danny Williams, Stanley Parks, and Rick Myers

Visitation will be held Saturday, March 23rd from 5:00 till 7:00 at Emerson Funeral Home.

"Mothers are a gift from heaven God uses to demonstrate his love for all children.

No one will ever love you like God or a mother does

But take solace in the fact that you'll meet again someday.”
