Doris Nelson, 64, of rural Jonesboro, died Saturday morning, February 13, 2010, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.
Born in Carthage, Mississippi, Doris moved to northeast Arkansas at an early age and lived most of her life in the Marked Tree-Jonesboro area. She retired from General Electric of Jonesboro, and was of the Baptist belief.
Doris enjoyed fishing and gardening, and was preceded in death by her parents: Carl and Lela White Grogan; by two brothers: Ray and Riley Grogan; by two sisters: Shirley Hicks and Gladys Pat Crabtree; and by four nephews: Terry Free, Bobby Kirby, Carl Grogan and Herman Simmons.
Survivors include her husband, Carl Nelson of the home;
2 sons: Billy Don Dale and Carl David Nelson, Jr., both of Jonesboro;
2 daughters and son-in-law: Marie and Don Fortenberry, and Chrystal Nelson, all of Jonesboro;
3 brothers: David Grogan and Johnny Grogan, both of Morton, Mississippi, and Woodrow Grogan of Beaumont, Texas;
7 sisters: Dorothy Free of Williford, Annie Joe Callahan of Pearl, Mississippi, Carolyn Gouviea of Los Angeles, Ellie Mae Dams and Tammy Proffit, both of Paragould, and Kathy Guy and Joyce Fisher, both of Morton, Mississippi;
6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10:30 in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jerry Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Richard Eagan, Lavaughn Barnes, Joe Berndt, Leslie Millsap,
Clay Cornwell and Jeff Lee.
Visitation will be held Monday evening, 5-7, at Emerson Funeral Home.
