Doris Crall

December 28, 1926 — December 19, 2021

Doris Douglass Crall, 94, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed from this life on Sunday, December 19, 2021. She was born in Paragould, Arkansas, to the late Edward and Jennie Douglass on December 28, 1926. Doris graduated with a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Missouri School of Journalism and began her career with the Jonesboro Sun in 1948. She married Harold Crall, who was one of her favorite clients, and together they owned and operated City Drug Store in Jonesboro, until their retirement. After the death of her husband in 2015, Doris moved to Louisville to live with her son.

Doris and Harold enjoyed their dance club and Glen Miller's music, and Doris most enjoyed dancing the jitterbug. She loved reading, particularly daily devotionals and mysteries. She liked to quiz her kids about state capitals and literary authors on long car rides, she liked beer with her pizza, and she enjoyed playing bridge and attending her monthly lunch bunch. She enjoyed traveling the U.S and the world but always loved coming back home to her family and dogs.

Doris was a member of Southwest Church of Christ, Junior Auxiliary of Jonesboro, and Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Harold Crall.

Doris is survived by her son, Dr. Doug Crall and wife, Liza, of Louisville, Kentucky, daughter Lynn Crall Parrish of Washington, D.C., and her sister Ginger Ashley William of Sikeston, Missouri. Doris also leaves behind four grandchildren; Jennie Shelburne of Bentonville, Arkansas, Matthew Crall of Los Alamos, New Mexico, Grace Evans of Little Rock, Arkansas, Anastasia Parrish of Washington, D.C.; three great-grandchildren, one niece and one nephew, and a host of other family and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 30, 2021, at Emerson Funeral Home from 1:00-2:00 PM followed by a private burial. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be given to the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House, mailing address 400 East St., Jonesboro, AR 72401 or to the charity of one’s choice.
